Liz Saville Roberts MP, Beth Winter MP and grassroots campaigning group Siarter Cartrefi hosted a public meeting to launch the Devolve The Crown Estate in Wales Campaign at the end of January.
124 people attended, the response was overwhelmingly positive and the date of the Thursday the 9th of May is set for the 4th meeting to take the campaign forward.

A whole range of campaign organisations are working to promote this issue in advance of Westminster elections, reflecting the wider interest on this matter in Wales.
Devolving the Estate was one of the co-produced ‘Ten Recommendations’ from Siarter’s community consultation and Emergency Housing Conference in February this year.
Devolving the Crown Estate has become a burning issue for many across Wales.
Michael Sheen and Jerome Flynn are supporting this important campaign and have recorded powerful messages for us to launch it.

We need to make it clear to Westminster that there is a mandate in Wales for devolving the Crown Estate and we need to build momentum around this issue in the coming months.

The Crown Estate manages land, other property and assets rights across the UK. Rights are auctioned in the form of licences – currently the most lucrative of these rights are for offshore wind farms, where the Crown Estate owns the rights to the seabed.
Between 2020 and 2021, the Crown Estate in Wales saw the value of its holdings increase from £49.2 million to £549.1 million, currently valued at £603 million. This is likely to increase further over the coming years with one estimate placing the gross asset value in excess of £900M.
Meanwhile, income and profits from the Crown Estate generate huge sums – money which leaves Wales.
These profits are divided between the King and the UK treasury. The Crown Estate and the corporations that own renewable installations extricate the profits which are generated from the natural resources of Wales; and yet, at the same time, Wales has a crisis of poverty and a lack of adequate funding.
A third of all children growing up in Wales are growing up in poverty, the highest in the UK.
Devolving the Crown Estate could allow Wales to address this poverty by creating a sovereign wealth fund for public benefit.
Wales must be allowed to prosper and thrive.

Mae hawliau yn cael eu gwerthu mewn arwerthiant ar ffurf trwyddedau – ar hyn o bryd mae’r hawliau mwyaf proffidiol o’r hawliau hyn ar gyfer ffermydd gwynt ar y môr, lle mae Ystâd y Goron yn berchen ar yr hawliau i wely’r môr.

Letter to Westminster.
To Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak & leader of the opposition, Keir Starmer,
Devolve the Crown Estate to Wales.
We call upon the UK Government to devolve the Crown Estate to Wales as it is in Scotland.
We the undersigned see that there is a clear benefit to Wales in devolving the Crown Estate.
Devolving the Crown Estate could help to finance a Sovereign Wealth Fund to support community owned assets such as housing and community renewable energy and also for investing in a nationally owned Energy Company to benefit the people of Wales.
This would be an important step towards greater resilience and to take a just share of the profits derived from renewable energy generated in Wales for public benefit.
