Wales Housing Emergency Conference – Cynhadledd Argyfwng Tai Cymru

Co-producing ideas, solutions and action – Cydgynhyrchu syniadau, datrysiadau a gweithrediad.

Siarter Cartrefi Report Launch in Cardiff Bay

On 28 June, a report was launched at the Pierhead, Cardiff Bay, which gives the results of our conference on the housing crisis. This was the pinnacle (for the time being) of an exciting journey and it was great to see a number of housing experts and politicians come to hear the report’s findings.

The report was rooted in lively engagement events, in particular from an ideas-filled day in Machynlleth, where over 100 people gathered to discuss solutions to the housing crisis. The conference had shown how wide-ranging housing is and how many different factors are involved in the situation: community resources, community ventures and the environment, but also second homes, landlordism for the profit of a few wealthy people, problematic planning policies and monies that are lost to our communities, for instance the profit from the Crown Estates.

The long report produced by Siarter Cartrefi was an attempt to bring analysis of the problems and the solutions together, with funding from the Welsh Government to this end. Many conclusions, recommendations and ideas had been noted in the report and these were expanded upon in the meeting. There were speakers such as Mabon ap Gwynfor MS and Steve Wilson from Siarter Cartrefi (the report author) but there was also a lot of time to discuss, network, make points from the floor and ask questions.

One of the heartening aspects of the launch was the cross-section of Senedd Members who had come to hear the conclusions of the report. There were members from Plaid Cymru, Welsh Labour and the Conservative Party. Civil servants working in the field and well known figures in housing were also there to hear about the findings.

We therefore hope that the report will contribute to policies to tackle the housing crisis.

This is certainly not the end of the journey. Siarter Cartrefi will continue to campaign whilst the housing crisis continues – remember to follow our next steps!

Lansiad Adroddiad Siarter Cartrefi ym Mae Caerdydd

Ar 28 Mehefin, lansiwyd adroddiad yn y Pierhead, Bae Caerdydd sy’n gosod canfyddiadau ein cynhadledd ar yr argyfwng tai. Penllanw (am y tro) taith cyffrous oedd hyn ac roedd yn braf gweld nifer o arbenigwyr yn y maes tai a gwleidyddion yn dod i glywed casgliadau’r adroddiad.

Roedd yr adroddiad wedi deillio o ddigwyddiadau ymgysylltu byrlymus, yn bennaf o ddiwrnod llawn syniadau ym Machynlleth, lle daeth dros gant o bobl ynghyd i drafod datrysiadau i’r argyfwng tai. Roedd y cynhadledd wedi dangos faint mor eang yw maes tai a faint o ffactorau gwahanol sydd ynghlwm â’r sefyllfa: adnoddau cymunedol, mentrau cydweithredol a’r amgylchedd, ond hefyd ail dai, landlordiaeth er elw rhai cyfoethogion, polisiau cynllunio diffygiol a ffynonhellau ariannol sydd ar goll i’n cymunedau, er enghraifft yr elw o Ystadau’r Goron.

Cais i ddod â dadansoddiadau o’r broblemau a datrysiadau ynghyd oedd yr adroddiad hir a gynhyrchwyd gan Siarter Cartrefi, gyda nawdd gan Lywodraeth Cymru at y diben hwn. Roedd nifer o gasgliadau, argymhellion a syniadau wedi’u nodi yn yr adroddiad ac ymhelaethwyd ar y rhain yn y cyfarfod. Cafwyd siaradwyr megis Mabon ap Gwynfor AS a Steve Wilson o Siarter Cartrefi (awdur yr adroddiad) ond roedd hefyd llawer o amser i drafod, rhwydweithio, gwneud pwyntiau o’r llawr a gofyn cwestiynau.

Un o’r pethau calonogol am y lansiad oedd y trawstoriad o Aelodau o’r Senedd a ddaeth i glywed casgliadau’r adroddiad. Roedd aelodau o Plaid Cymru, Llafur Cymru ac o’r Blaid Toriaidd. Roedd gweision sifil sy’n gweithio yn y maes a ffigyrau amlwg o’r maes tai hefyd yno i gael clywed am y canfyddiadau.

Rydym yn gobeithio felly y bydd yr adroddiad yn cyfrannu at bolisiau i fynd i’r afael a’r argyfwng tai.

Nid dyma ddiwedd y daith o bell ffordd. Mae Siarter Cartrefi am barhau i ymgyrchu tra bod argyfwng yn y maes tai – cofiwch dilyn ein camau nesaf!
